Despite the summer transfer window only ending last week, with the windows in Saudi Arabia and Turkey still open, Manchester United’s recruitment team are having no break, as the Red Devils now turn their attentions to the January window.
This summer has seen a major push to overhaul the United attack, with Antony and Alejandro Garnacho leaving the club permanently, being replaced by Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, with Benjamin Sesko also joining the club to as a new first-choice striker.
Alongside Garnacho and Antony’s departures, United have also loaned out Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Hojlund in attack, whilst also making some changes at the other end of the pitch.
The Red Devils have also signed Senne Lammens in goal from Royal Antwerp, and in turn have now agreed a loan deal for Andre Onana to head to Trabzonspor for the rest of the season.
However, the club are yet to sign to the midfield, which Fabrizio Romano has now reported is their focus for the winter transfer window.
Taking to his YouTube channel, Romano commented: “Manchester United maintain the idea to add one more player in midfield.”
He continued: “It was impossible this summer, but Manchester United maintain the idea to do one more signing in the January transfer window, might be more based on the opportunities on the table and all the rest.
“But a new midfielder is expected to join Manchester United in 2026. We will see if it will be a top player immediately like [Carlos] Baleba, it’s not going to be easy in January but maybe in the summer, or if they find an opportunity like Conor Gallagher in the final days of the window.”
Fabrizio Romano also went on to say that United will be looking at their current midfield over the next few months, with the reporter even naming Kobbie Mainoo, who could have an impact either way.
🚨 JUST IN: A new midfielder will join Manchester United in 2026 (January) – it reminds to be seen if it’s a top player like Baleba as the deal will be difficult OR a opportunity on the market, like Conor Gallagher.#MUFC [@FabrizioRomano] pic.twitter.com/epWsdOD79c
