Last month saw Manchester United have to abandon a game after one of their star players was stretchered off injured.
United’s Under-21s side took on Tamworth in the National League Cup, however after Sekou Kone collided with a Tamworth player, the game was called off.
Kone hit the floor and after trying to get up, was instructed to stay down, then being carried off the pitch and taken to hospital, later being confirmed that Kone has fractured his eye socket.
With no other ambulance on hand for the game, the cup fixture was abandoned, set to be rearranged at a later date.
Now, Manchester United have taken to their official website to confirm the new date for their second attempt at the fixture.
The statement explained: “Manchester United Under-21s’ abandoned National League Cup fixture at Tamworth has been rearranged for Tuesday 16 December (19:45 GMT).”
It continued: “The original match was brought to an abrupt conclusion when United midfielder Sekou Kone suffered a head injury and had to be taken to hospital as a precaution. Sekou has since recovered well.
“At the time of the game’s abandonment, neither side had scored, although both teams had created good chances.
“Tickets for the original fixture are able to be reused for this rearranged fixture.
“United were followed by a healthy travelling support, for which players and staff were very grateful, especially given the ultimate circumstances of the way the game was cut short.
“The new date means our opening group-stage game in the National League Cup will now be against Brackley on Tuesday 16 September.
“That match will be shown live on MUTV. We then face Rochdale and Solihull Moors before the Tamworth trip.”
As such United will now have to wait three months until they look to take on Tamworth again, with Sekou Kone hoping to return before their next meeting.
