The Barcelona and Manchester United relationship in terms of transfers appears strong with the Marcus Rashford loan deal sealed this summer.
Establishing good relationships between two behemoth clubs is always good in order to trade the best players in the world, as we all remember Erik ten Hag’s hot pursuit of Frenkie de Jong when he first arrived at the club.
Though there is no more transfer business to be had between the Catalan club and United this summer, there was some interest in a Barcelona player.
The Standard reported that from reports in Spain, United were considering a first bid of £45 million (€50 million) to possibly compete with Chelsea for the impressive Spaniard.
However, Lopez has remained with Hansi Flick’s side as he confirmed that he had next to no interest in a move to England.
In an interview with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo he said ‘In the end my priority has always been to be at Barca. I arrived at 12 years old, it was my dream to be here to reach the first team. It’s always flattering that there is interest from other clubs, but the truth is I always had the idea of staying at Barca and succeeding here.’
It goes to show there was some interest as one of the best players in the world also commented on the interest for Lopez. Lamine Yamal discussed the interest for his national and club team mate with Spanish outlet RTVE:
‘He’s fine and happy as always. At Barca, if someone leaves it’s their decision, we’re a young, united group where there are no problems between us, and we enjoy the club we’re at.’
‘I don’t think anyone wants to leave. We jokingly asked him what was going on with England, but he told us he wanted to stay, that he was happy.’
It goes to show, that Yamal’s comments mean there was some interest for Lopez from Manchester United, particularly with the conjecture of their need for a midfielder this summer with the priority being to change the attack.
However, with Yamal and Lopez confirming, it looks like the rumors for now are put to bed.
