Another member of the Manchester United “bomb squad” has departed Old Trafford as unwanted winger Antony has headed back to Real Betis.

The Brazilian attack spent a successful half-season loan with the LaLiga side last season, finding his form once more after struggling to deliver for United.

Whilst with Betis, scored nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances, nearly matching his record for United in 96 games of only three more goals, despite the 70 extra games.

As such, it’s been no surprise that the Spanish side have been keen to retain their star, with the final deal seeing them only purchase 50% of Antony, leaving United with a 50% stake of the sell-on profits.

However, the deal looked to be in question as Real Betis threatened to walk away, withdrawing their offer £21.6 million (€25 million) with complications over finances.

However, the move has now officially gone through on deadline day, seeing the Brazilian winger return to Spain.

Now, The Red Devils has announced his departure on X, with a post thanking the winger for his time at Old Trafford.

Equally, Real Betis have announced his signing on their official site, saying: “Real Betis Balompié and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Antony Matheus dos Santos.

The statement continued: “Born in São Paulo, Brazil (24 February 2000), Antony now returns to the Verdiblancos, signing a contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.
“The forward began his professional career at São Paulo FC before making the move to Europe in 2020. Following spells at Ajax and Manchester United, Antony first arrived at Real Betis during last season’s winter transfer window.
“His impressive performances in green and white yielded 9 goals and 6 assists in 26 appearances, playing a decisive role in the club’s qualification for European competition and in reaching the historic UEFA Conference League final.
“The new Betis signing is a full Brazilian international, having represented his country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and winning Olympic gold in 2021.”
