Manchester United’s summer rebuild has already seen several high-profile names leave Old Trafford as Ruben Amorim continues shaping his squad for the new season.

The Portuguese manager has stressed the importance of trimming the wage bill while creating space for fresh additions, a task that has led to difficult decisions on players who no longer feature in United’s long-term plans.

United have been busy exploring opportunities in the market, including reinforcements in goal, while working behind the scenes to resolve the futures of those left out of pre-season preparations.

Among those players was Jadon Sancho, whose career at Old Trafford has been in limbo following a turbulent few years and strained relationships under previous management.

Now, after months of speculation, a definitive step has finally been taken regarding the winger’s future.

Aston Villa have signed Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on a loan deal, as per Fabrizio Romano via X.

Formal steps are expected to follow, but agreement between the clubs has been reached, marking the end of Sancho’s time in limbo.

The 25-year-old enters the final year of his United contract, though the club still hold the option to extend by a further 12 months if they wish.

Villa will cover part of Sancho’s salary during his loan deal.

Villa’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho had been reported on Sunday evening, with the move considered separate from United’s own interest in goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea, where he made 41 appearances, but the London side chose not to trigger the £25m obligation-to-buy clause.

His return to Manchester saw him omitted from Amorim’s pre-season tour squad, joining four other senior players who were told to train separately as the club searched for solutions.

Sancho has made 83 appearances for United since his 2021 arrival from Borussia Dortmund but has not played a competitive match since the 2024 Community Shield.

That fixture proved to be his last in a United shirt after a public falling out with then-manager Erik ten Hag left his position at the club untenable.

Now, with Villa sealing a loan deal, Sancho will have the chance to relaunch his Premier League career away from Old Trafford, while United focus on reinforcements and continuing their squad overhaul.
