Manchester United’s transfer plans remain in motion as Ruben Amorim continues shaping the squad for the season ahead.

The Portuguese manager has already overseen several changes, with both arrivals and departures expected before the window closes.

United’s need for a reliable long-term solution in goal has been a recurring theme, particularly with doubts over depth behind Andre Onana.

Elsewhere, the futures of out-of-favour stars remain a key issue, with clubs across Europe monitoring potential deals in the final weeks of the market.

Now, United find themselves at the centre of a transfer story that could involve movement in both directions.

Aston Villa have expressed an interest in signing Jadon Sancho, while United are actively exploring the possibility of bringing Villa’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to Old Trafford, as per the Manchester Evening News.

Martinez, 32, has been keen on a switch to United for several months, and the club previously saw a loan approach dismissed earlier in the summer.

Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens has also been considered, but Martinez remains high on the list of targets.

On the other side of the deal, Roma have led the chase for Jadon Sancho throughout the window, though talks have repeatedly stalled.

Juventus also held discussions earlier in the summer, with Italy seen as the likeliest destination for the winger.

However, Villa’s emergence changes the landscape, especially as Sancho has yet to feature in a Premier League game for United in over two years.

Sancho’s contract is down to its final ten months, with United unlikely to activate the automatic one-year extension if he remains at the club.

The winger departed on loan to Chelsea last season, only for the London side to pay a £5m penalty not to retain him.

Martinez and Sancho are both on similar wages of around £200,000-a-week, aided by United’s Champions League penalty clause that reduces player salaries by 25% when qualification is missed.

Villa’s interest in Sancho coincides with Martinez’s absence from their 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, where Unai Emery admitted the goalkeeper was not focused.

With Villa winless after three league matches and struggling to strengthen, a potential swap dynamic may yet develop.

For United, the situation offers a chance to offload Sancho permanently while potentially solving their goalkeeping concerns with one of the Premier League’s most decorated stoppers.
