Emiliano Martinez has been at the centre of transfer speculation as the transfer window nears its inevitable closure.
The goalkeeper, who won the FIFA World Cup with Argentina in 2022, has been one of two ‘keepers linked to United this summer.
In June, the Red Devils formally contacted the goalkeeper.
Following then, Ruben Amorim’s side then advanced in their pursuit of the Aston Villa number one.
But, following that, the deal between the two parties had failed to materialise.
Then, today, Manchester United made a last minute approach to try and sign Martinez.
Following this, news emerged that the goalkeeper and United had reached an agreement to bring him to Old Trafford.
Finally, and most recently, Emiliano Martinez was left out of Aston Villa’s squad for their game against Crystal Palace this evening.
With this all occurring, transfer speculation about the goalkeeper’s immediate future is currently at its peak.
Now, Unai Emery has responded delivering a bizarre response to Martinez’ absence this evening.
Talking to the press, Emery was questioned about why Martinez was left out of the squad and about his future.
In response to this question, the Villa boss had a two word reply simply consisting of “Marco Bizot.” – Villa’s second choice keeper.
Bizot has filled in Martinez’s role this evening in Aston Villa’s 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
The bizarreness of this response arguably raises eyebrows and attracts question.
It could also mean several things. Emery could simply be answering the question with a blunt nature which could be understandable considering the circumstance.
But, Unai Emery could also be hinting at Martinez leaving Villa and joining United.
However, nothing can be said for sure yet and the coming day will arguably be crucial in telling us more answers.
