Currently, Manchester United have three main goalkeepers to choose from – Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.
However, in recent weeks, we have seen Bayindir picked over the other two options with Onana even deliberating his future at the club.
But, these rumours were squashed yesterday with the Cameroon international set to stay at the club.
Even with three options available, United arguably haven’t been able to find defensive solidity with the Red Devils conceding in each of their three Premier League games and their Carabao Cup fixture against Grimsby Town earlier this week.
Furthermore, both Onana and Bayindir have made errors this season.
Onana’s errors fell in the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby where the ‘keeper was arguably at fault for both of the Mariners’ goals.
Furthermore, Bayindir’s error fell during United’s opening Premier League game versus Arsenal.
In this instance, he made a costly error leading to Arsenal scoring.
He also dropped the ball allowing Burnley to equalise in yesterday’s match.
With both ‘keepers making errors, fans have given their opinion on who should start for the Red Devils in goal.
Now, the first-team players have given their opinion on the situation.
According to the Sun, several Manchester United first-team players think Tom Heaton should be given a chance in goal.
A source told SunSport that “judging it on performances on the training pitch, some of the lads think Tom deserves a chance.”
Furthermore, the source stated that “he’s very experienced, looks after himself and is a key member of the squad.”
With this news revealed, attention will now turn towards Ruben Amorim to see if he makes this key change.
If he does, we could see Heaton feature in United’s next game versus fierce rivals Manchester City.
