The women’s side of Manchester United have arguably been a powerhouse of women’s football in England for years.

Featuring names such as Grace Clinton, who has been linked with Manchester City, the squad arguably is recognisable to most fans of women’s football.

In the Women’s Super League, they have never been able to win the league.

However, in its most recent season, the side were able to finish in third place.

Furthermore, in the 2022-23 season, they finished as runners up.

Outside of the Women’s Super League, United’s women’s side won the Women’s FA Cup in the 2023-24 season.

As well as this, the side were able to win the 2018-19 FA Women’s Championship.

Whilst these trophies show success in a physical form, the women’s side will arguably be aiming for more success in the upcoming season.

Now, the side have set a new record.

Following today’s victory in the UEFA Women’s Champions League second round qualifying match against Swedish side Hammarby 1-0, the side will move onto the third round for the first time ever.

Following this result, the women’s side may turn their attention towards the third round qualifying round.

The draw for this takes place tomorrow at 11am with the matches of the two-legged tie to take place on the 11th and 18th of September.

United’s result means that only two games stand in the women’s way before the prospect of Champions League football opens up for Manchester United.

If they were to win their third round tie and enter the Champions League, they may face teams such as Barcelona and Chelsea amongst others.

But, nothing can be said for sure before the side play their third round tie next month against their opponent.

For now, attention may also turn towards the Red Devils’ Women’s Super League campaign which is due to kick-off next weekend against Leicester City at home.
