Alejandro Garnacho’s now a Chelsea player.

Once heralded as a future Manchester United legend, the attacker leaves Old Trafford with a question of what might have been hanging over him.

United fans were dreaming of the next Cristiano Ronaldo when they saw the youngster score a last winner against Fulham to register his first English Premier League goal.

That faith felt empowered when Alejandro Garnacho scored one of the greatest English Premier League goals ever when he scored a bicycle kick against Everton.

And when he scored the opener in the FA Cup 2024 victory, many envisaged him going on to bigger and better things for United.

Alas, it was not to be.

Ever since the 2024/25 season began, the wheels feel like they’ve been falling off for Garnacho at the club.

He was dropped for the Manchester derby in December 2024 by head coach Ruben Amorim for his response to instructions in a UEFA Europa League game against Viktoria Plzen.

In January, the unthinkable happened when it became clear that the club were open to selling the attacker.

Despite looking for £60m in January, the club have accepted a fee of £40m + 10% sell on fee.

How did things fall apart?

Nobody is quite sure right now, but what is clear is that the player himself has a role to play in this.

And an X user has now made some shocking allegations in relation to the player and his family.

@HarleyMUFC2 has shared a thread claiming that is seems that Alejandro Garnacho’s younger brother made bets on games involving the-then Manchester United star.

In the tweets, the user alleges that Roberto Garnacho, who is the younger brother of Alejandro, seems to have bet on the United game against Fenerbahce.

The alleged bets were that Noussair Mazraoui and Alejandro Garnacho will both have shots in the game, with the latter getting one on target.

Why this is noteworthy is because this was the game where Erik ten Hag used Mazraoui in an unusual position as a number 10 – which surprised most onlookers.

Around the same time, there were many rumours going around on who was leaking Manchester United teamsheets ahead of important fixtures.

Although there was never any conclusive evidence, many speculated online that the news was allegedly coming from someone within the Garnacho camp.

Again, this was never confirmed by anyone from the club but @HarleyMUFC2 alleges this in the thread that the leak came from Roberto Garnacho.

Also shared are data screenshots of the two shots in the game that Alejandro Garnacho took that were both outside of the box and had a combined xG of 0.04.

The allegations don’t stop there.

At the time of the incident, Roberto Garnacho would have been underage.

So the allegations made by @HarleyMUFC2 is that he used someone else’s ID to bet.

It’s certainly a wild situation.

Underage betting is a serious accusation and certainly one that a globally known football star should want to be nowhere near.

Importantly, we must stress that these allegations are unsubstantiated and, outside of the screenshots shared, there is no evidence that confirms the news.

Screenshots can be manipulated, so we have to presume innocence until proven guilty.

But on the day that Alejandro Garnacho’s sealed his move to Stamford Bridge, this is certainly not the news that he and his family would want to see online.

As a new chapter begins in his footballing story, Garnacho will be hoping to put any controversies behind him as he swaps his red jersey for one in blue.
