Manchester United’s turbulent start to the new season has left more questions than answers at Old Trafford.

The Reds have stumbled through their opening fixtures, struggling to find rhythm as pressure mounts on Ruben Amorim to deliver quick results.

Fans have already voiced their frustrations after the League Cup humiliation against Grimsby Town, the lowest-ranked side to ever knock United out of the competition.

With crucial Premier League fixtures ahead, squad harmony has never been more important, yet behind the scenes unrest is starting to bubble.

One of the most concerning developments is the situation surrounding United’s academy jewel, Kobbie Mainoo.

The midfielder has not featured in either of the club’s first two league matches, leaving him disillusioned about his immediate future.

Mainoo has formally requested a loan move away from Old Trafford to secure regular game time this season.

The request has been flatly denied by United’s board, who have insisted he remain and fight for his place under Amorim.

Mainoo is not alone in his frustration.

Chido Obi, the Danish forward who joined from Arsenal’s academy in 2024, has also been frozen out.

Despite shining at youth level, Chido Obi was overlooked for the midweek cup tie at Grimsby, where Amorim instead turned to Ayden Heaven, Tyler Fredricson and Diego Leon.

Obi has since fuelled speculation by altering his Instagram profile, removing a photo with Amorim and scrubbing United from his bio.

At the beginning of the month the Daily Mail reported that United had no plans to send the 17-year-old out on loan.

With Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford already gone, and Alejandro Garnacho on the verge of joining Chelsea, United fans are questioning the club’s direction.

Amorim faces growing pressure to steady the ship, but keeping his brightest talents onside may be the biggest challenge of all.
