Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now once more found himself clubless, as Besiktas have sacked the former striker with immediate effect.

The former Norway international took on the manager role at Besiktas back in January as his first managerial role since leaving the Manchester United hot seat in November 2021.

Last season saw Solskjaer inherit the Turkish side sitting in sixth place in the Super Lig, taking them up two places to get a Europa League qualifiers slot at the end of the season.

However, this season, although having just started, has not gone quite to plan.

Besiktas were knocked out of the Europa League qualifiers by Shakhtar Donetsk with an aggregate score of 6-2. Following this, being demoted into the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, the Turkish side were knocked out by Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport.

Whilst Besiktas’ European campaigns have failed at the start, the Turkish side kicked off their Super Lig campaign well with a 2-1 win over Eyupspor, however it seemingly wasn’t enough to save Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.

Taking to their official website, Besiktas have announced: “We Parted Ways with Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer”

The statement continued: “Our contract with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been terminated following a decision made at the board meeting.

“Following the meeting, our chairman, Serdal Adalı, thanked Solskjaer for his services to date.

“We respectfully present it to the public.”

Now, the Turkish side will be on the hunt for another new manager, with Solskjaer being the sixth manager they’ve had in two years, including the likes of Fernando Santos and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

As for Solskjaer, given the three year gap between leaving Old Trafford and joining Besiktas, it’s thought that the Manchester United legend won’t be rushing out to find a club quickly, instead weighing up the options and opportunities that come to him.
