Bruno Fernandes led Manchester United out for their game against Fulham today at Craven Cottage.
In the mist of a transfer saga that has seen the attacking midfielder linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, the 30-year-old was able to pick up a match rating of 7.2/10 according to FotMob.
However, one key moment stood out in the game.
In the game’s 36th minute, a penalty was given to the Red Devils due to Calvin Bassey dragging Mason Mount down in the box.
But, when Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take the spot kick, he skied the shot over.
However, in the preparation for the penalty, the game’s referee – Chris Kavanagh – bumped in the Portuguese international.
The action of this happening arguably impacted Fernandes during his preparation which could have influenced him in the taking of the penalty.
Furthermore, in a game that ended 1-1, the penalty stands out as a key and decisive moment in the game that could have won the game for Ruben Amorim’s side.
Now, following the game, Bruno Fernandes have opened up on this incident.

Furthermore, the United captain claimed that ‘obviously, as every penalty taker, you have your own routines, you have your own things that you do.’
As well as this, the midfielder opened up on why he was upset with the referee following the departure.
In the interview, Fernandes said that he was upset ‘because the referee didn’t apologise, and that was what triggered me in the moment.’
However, he also acknowledged that it was not ‘the excuse to missing the penalty.’
Now, following this event, United and Bruno Fernandes will turn their attention towards their Carabao Cup game against Grimsby Town.
