Former Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag took over at Bayer Leverkusen this summer following the departure of Xabi Alonso.

Alonso had previously led the German side to the Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season with an impressive display that saw Leverkusen pick up 90 points from their 34 games, an average of 2.6 points per match.

With this being considered, there is arguably a pressure on Ten Hag to deliver at Leverkusen this season.

Furthermore, following a second place finish last season, the expectation will arguably be to qualify for the UEFA Champions League through finishing in the top four in the German top flight.

As well as this, there may also be pressure on the former United boss to do well in the UEFA Champions League this season.

However, the German side haven’t got off to the best of starts in their Bundesliga campaign.

Playing today, Leverkusen lost 2-1 to Hoffenheim despite taking the lead in the opening 10 minutes.

In a game that saw Bayer have 60% of the ball, they were unable to make the most of it only having eight shots throughout the game to Hoffenheim’s ten.

Furthermore, Hoffenheim were able to have five shots on target.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen were only able to register two shots on target showing their inaccuracy when taking shots.

The result puts Leverkusen 13th in the table with zero points behind the likes of Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt who both got their campaigns off to a successful start.

With this game now behind them, Erik Ten Hag and his management team will have to go back to the drawing board and prepare their players for next week’s game against Werder Bremen who also lost their opening game of the season 4-1.
