The future of Manchester United’s goalkeeping department is becoming unclear, with significant speculation regarding the long-term futures of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

This summer United have been heavily linked with Gianluigi Donnarumma and Emiliano Martinez as replacements for Onana, given his rocky two seasons so far at the club being a factor to The Red Devils’ two worst Premier League season on record.

However, with Altay Bayindir failing to step up as a reliable back-up last season, Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens has been linked as a potential successor for the Turkey international.

Whilst it looks as though Ruben Amorim is standing by both of his current options right now, it’s not known how long this will last if performances don’t improve.

The same can’t be said however of the Women’s team who have recently rewarded one of their keepers with a new contract.

Safia Middleton-Patel has agreed a new three-year contract to continue her stay at the club.

Taking to their official website, Manchester United announced: “Safia Middleton-Patel has signed a new contract with Manchester United that will extend her stay with the club until June 2028.

“The 20-year-old goalkeeper has been with United since the age of 15 and made her senior debut in a League Cup win over Newcastle United last December.

“She already has five senior caps for Wales after previously representing her country at Under-17 and Under-19 levels, and gained further experience during loan spells with Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, Coventry United and Watford.”

Speaking after signing her new contract, Middleton-Patel commented: “I am so happy to be continuing my journey with Manchester United and excited about what’s to come in the next three years.

“It was a dream to make my Manchester United debut last year and my ambition is to gradually compete for more minutes while also learning from and supporting the other excellent goalkeepers we have at the club.”
