Manchester United’s identity has always been tied to youth, with a constant emphasis on developing homegrown players capable of making the leap into the first team.

For decades, the pathway from academy to senior football has been seen as central to the club’s DNA, with the Class of ’92 often held up as the prime example of getting it right.

In modern times, with INEOS now overseeing a new structure at Carrington, that philosophy has only been reinforced, ensuring young prospects are given the best chance to grow.

Loans into the EFL have become a crucial part of that process, allowing youngsters to experience men’s football and adapt to the physical and mental demands that come with it.

According to Daily Mail’s report, United are now pushing to secure a League One loan move for Ethan Williams, following his positive spell in League Two with Cheltenham Town last season.

Williams, who made 17 appearances in Gloucestershire, also travelled with the senior squad on their pre-season tour of the United States this summer and looked lively in a recent outing against Middlesbrough.

Academy insiders have confirmed there is significant interest in taking the winger on loan.

United are keen to see him tested at a higher level this campaign.

Earlier in July, news circulated that Amorim is a ‘huge fan’ of Williams, who caught Amorim’s eye in training.

It therefore comes as little surprise that he was involved in first-team training days before the league opening loss to Arsenal.

Daily Mail’s report also notes that supporters have been curious about the next steps for striker Ennis, who spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers.

Aberdeen were interested in taking him north of the border this summer, but that move failed to materialise.

There is now a feeling he could remain with United’s academy for the time being.
