Manchester United’s season has barely begun, yet the conversation around the squad continues to dominate headlines.
Ruben Amorim has wasted no time stamping his authority in his first summer at Old Trafford, overseeing both arrivals and departures as he reshapes a side desperate to climb back to the top.
Three new forwards were recruited to bolster United’s attack, with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko all making their debuts in the opening-day defeat to Arsenal.
While there was excitement about fresh attacking options, there was also a wave of exits, including experienced names who had been part of the dressing room core.
Among the players who left at the end of their contracts, one long-serving defender now finds himself in an unexpected position after leaving Old Trafford behind.
Victor Lindelof, once a regular in United’s backline and captain of the Swedish national team, is still without a club since his contract expired in June.
Despite being only 31 years old, the Swede has not been able to secure a move, with Amorim making no attempt to extend his stay.

Victor Lindelof has since returned to his roots, training with boyhood club Vasteras SK, who were relegated from Sweden’s top tier last season, as reported by Sport Witness.
Although the gesture highlights his loyalty to his hometown side, it is clear that Lindelof is aiming higher, hoping to land a contract with a club competing at a stronger level.
His international ambitions remain uncertain, especially with Jon Dahl Tomasson weighing up his options ahead of Sweden’s push towards the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking on the situation, Tomasson told Fotbollskanalen: “In a perfect world he would be available, would have played the whole pre-season and all the matches.
“But that’s not the case. These are things we have to deal with and that’s why I’m very happy to look back at the June matches.
“We had some new faces but Sweden looked like Sweden.”
For United fans, it’s another reminder of how quickly fortunes change in football, as a player who once played a key role at Old Trafford now faces an uncertain career crossroads.
The Red Devils, meanwhile, will be watching closely, as the departures of experienced players like Lindelof and Christian Eriksen have left gaps in leadership that Amorim must now address with his new-look squad.
