Now that Manchester United have signed Benjamin Sesko, completing their attacking remodelling, The Red Devils are now turning to the middle of the pitch for their next recruitment.
Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba has been identified as the priority target to come in this summer, however The Seagulls are looking to retain him for at least another year.
As such, Brighton have reportedly put a truly astonishing £120 million price tag on the midfielder, having risen from £104 million only a matter of weeks ago.
The fee aims to ward off any potential suitor, including Manchester United, with the Red Devils having already spent over £200 million on Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, without any sales to offset their spending.
Whilst Ruben Amorim is a keen admirer of the Cameroon international, wanting to sign him this summer, his fee could prove too much for United, with contingencies being made just in case.

Now, The Independent has reported that should United fail to sign Carlos Baleba, their next priority is Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
This isn’t the first time that Wharton has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as the England midfielder was considered to join the Red Devils last summer before Manuel Ugarte was signed from PSG.
However, a move for Wharton would also be difficult as Palace have gained European football for the first time ever, winning the FA Cup and getting a slot in the UEFA Conference League due to UEFA’s multi-club rules.
Not only have the club got European football, but they are also set to lose Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze, two of their key players with Palace not wanting to lose a third in their first European campaign.
As such, United face a battle to sign either of their first or second-choice midfielders before the window closes.
