Heading into the summer transfer window, it was clear that it was set to be Manchester United’s most important summer of recent time.
The club had just come off the back of their worst league record since being relegated in 1973/74 and are set to miss out on European football next summer.
Alongside this, The Red Devils are also experiencing major financial struggles, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe introducing a series of cost-cutting measures to prevent the side from going bust.
As such, it was expected that funds would be limited, with United needing to make sales before signing off on any big signings.
However, that’s not quite how it’s played out.
The Red Devils first signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million before signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for £71 million.
Most recently has been Benjamin Sesko, moving from RB Leipzig for £73.8 million, bringing the combined total of the trio to £207.3 million.
With their only major outgoing so far being Marcus Rashford to Barcelona on loan, there is very little to offset their major spending this summer.
As such, LiveScore has reported on X that Manchester United have the worst net spend of any club in Europe this summer, standing at around £199 million.
In second place comes Arsenal with £187 million, then Real Madrid with £143 million, Manchester City with £125 million and then Tottenham Hotspur with £95 million.
Unfortunately this is a fairly damning list to rank top of, showing the club’s inability to make sales so far this summer.
However there is hope for United, with the club aiming to raise around £100 million in funds by selling Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund, not to mention the sales of Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia that are also being prioritised.
