The future of Manchester United’s goalkeeping department has been up in the air for some time now, causing a dilemma for Ruben Amorim going into the coming season.
First-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana has had some questionable moments over the last two seasons that he’s been at the club, being a factor for United’s two worst Premier League seasons on record.
As a back-up, Altay Bayindir has been given limited opportunities to step up and show his ability to cover for Onana, losing three out of the four matches he played in the Premier League last season.
Heading into the summer transfer window, it was reported that Bayindir was looking for a move away to gain more first-team football, and as such, United were potentially looking to replace both their first and second choice keepers in one window.
However, that’s not how it’s panned out, with no new signings for the goalkeeper department.
Whilst there have been links to replace Onana with Gianluigi Donnarumma or Emiliano Martinez, nothing has developed, and Bayindir being replaced by Senne Lammens has also gone cold.
Whist it’s still unknown what will happen with the United goalkeepers in the short term, their long-term plans seem to be more solid.
BBC reporter Simon Stone has taken to X to explain that not only is there a strong push back from United regarding a move for Donnarumma, but that the signing of a new goalkeeper is not a priority.
In a separate post he also explained that Radek Vitek and Elyh Harrison are highly regarded by the club and are both out on loan to gain more experience of first-team football.
As such, we could be seeing United turn to the pair in the coming seasons as they work their way even further through the ranks.
Strong push back from Old Trafford against link with Donnarumma. Goalkeeper not a priority for Man Utd.

Worth bearing in mind in any goalkeeper talk around @ManUtd that Radek Vitek and Elyh Harrison out on loan and very highly thought of by club.
