Manchester United’s struggles in the transfer market have been well documented, with the club often criticised for failing to sell players at the right time for the right price.
Over the years, high-profile names such as Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic have departed Old Trafford for free, leaving United without valuable transfer fees that could have been reinvested.
It’s an issue that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and head coach Ruben Amorim are determined to address as they look to reshape the club’s recruitment and sales strategy.
And now, Celta Vigo have joined the race to sign a player who also left United on a free.
According to journalist Nicolo Schira on X, LaLiga outfit Celta Vigo are interested in signing former United defender Victor Lindelof, who left the club last year as a free agent.
The news also comes from Swedish publication AftonBladet who have commented on the race beginning to unfold for Lindelof.
The Swedish centre-back spent seven years at Old Trafford, making 194 Premier League appearances and featuring 26 times in the Champions League.
In total, Lindelof played 284 matches for United, also winning domestic honours during his time in Manchester.
Now 31 and captain of Sweden’s national team, Lindelof is considering his next move as interest mounts from across Europe.
Celta Vigo are keen to bolster their defensive options, but they face competition from Bayer Leverkusen, according to Swedish media.
Leverkusen, now managed by former United boss Erik ten Hag, have identified Lindelof as a potential replacement for Jonathan Tah, who joined Bayern Munich earlier this summer.
Ten Hag previously managed Lindelof at Old Trafford and could push to reunite with him in Germany.
With two strong suitors and Lindelof available on a free, a transfer battle looks set to unfold in the coming weeks.
