Heading into the summer transfer window, it was highly anticipated that Manchester United would be signing a new goalkeeper before the 2025/26 Premier League season got underway.
The last two years have seen Andre Onana as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper as well as the clubs two worst ever Premier League finishes coming eighth and 15th.
Whilst Onana can’t be solely to blame for this poor run of form, with the tie period also lining up with Erik ten Hag’s reign, Rasmus Hojlund’s inconsistent period as the club’s first-choice striker, and countless injuries, the Cameroon international is a factor in the club’s decline.
Throughout the two years, the problematic goalkeeper has delivered a significant number of poor and questionable performances, even leading the Premier League goalkeeper list for the most mistakes made, resulting in conceding a goal.
As such, a new goalkeeper was expected to be on the cards, however the club have been prioritising their attack, and are now looking to a new shot-stopper.
Over the course of the summer several targets have been shortlisted, with the front-runners being Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.
Whilst Martinez has slightly fallen away from the top spot, Donnarumma and Lammens are very different profiles of keepers, with the PSG keeper being a top class shot-stopper to make an impact now, with Lammens being more of a prospect for the future.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has taken to his YouTube channel to reported that United are still undecided on which way they want to go.

Romano explained: “Manchester United still have to decide whether they want to try to find a goalkeeper who is for the future, like Lammens who’s very talented at Royal Antwerp, he’s not very expensive in terms not only of transfer fee but also salary.
H econtinued: “Or if they want to spend big money on the goalkeeper and in that case Donnarumma and Martinez, these kind of names are obviously way more expensive, transfer fee, salary.”
“So Manchester United need to decide what they want to do and will probably depend also on what happens with their goalkeepers.
“So at the moment, it’s not something really concrete or advanced for Manchester United because they still need an internal decision on the goalkeeper case in general.”
