Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is looking like his edging closer and closer to the exit door this summer, amid links to a Serie A return.
The Denmark international has struggled to establish himself as a prolific striker at Old Trafford, failing to provide consistency in front of goal.
Whilst Hojlund is only 22-year-old, so admittedly is still in the early days of his career, he hasn’t been able to live up to the role of first-choice striker that Erik ten Hag signed him to back in 2023.
Now, with Ruben Amorim at the helm, the Portuguese manager has lost faith that the Danish striker can grow under his system, with the club deciding that his future could well lie elsewhere.
This was only heightened by United’s signing of Benjamin Sesko to replace Hojlund as the club’s first-choice striker, whilst being the same age as the Denmark international.
As such, The Red Devils decided they’d be open to a loan move for Hojlund with the option to buy at the end of the season.
Italian giants AC Milan have jumped on the opportunity, negotiating a loan deal for a fee of £4.5 million, with a option to buy of £34.5 million plus bonuses at the end of the season.

Whilst Milan are pushing for the move, Hojlund has been determined to remain at Old Trafford to fight for his position in the team, however, Ruben Amorim’s recent decision might have sent a message pushing Hojlund to the door.
In United’s Snapdragon Cup win over Fiorentina at Old Trafford, Rasmus Hojlund watched on from the United dugout as an unused substitute, with Matheus Cunha starting up front ahead of the club’s former first-choice striker.
Previously Amorim has been clear that he only wants to use players that will be in the squad for the season, seeing him leave Harry Amass out of the travelling squad to the States for the pre-season tour as a loan move is being lined up for the left-back.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that his decision to leave Hojlund off the pitch sends a clear message to the 22-year-old.
Hojlund’s omission from the game, at the same time as negotiations with AC Milan over a move, shows that the Denmark international is not featuring in Amorim’s plans this season, especially with Benjamin Sesko now at his disposal.
🚨⚠️ Zero minutes for Rasmus Højlund today against Fiorentina, clear message coming from Man United.
As revealed two days ago, the club is prepared to let him leave on initial loan for €6m fee with salary covered plus buy option clause.
