The Premier League curtain-raiser at Old Trafford next Sunday promises to be one of the most intriguing opening clashes in recent memory.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal have been active in the transfer market, reshaping their squads ahead of pivotal campaigns under Ruben Amorim and Mikel Arteta respectively.

But beyond the signings, it’s the underlying tactical changes – particularly from Amorim – that have made United one of the more fascinating sides in pre-season.

The Portuguese coach has continued to stick by his fluid 3-4-3 system that fans are beginning to buy into.

Coupled with the home advantage and renewed belief in the direction of the club, the clash with Arsenal is shaping up to be an early litmus test for both sides.

And with just over a week to go, Arsenal have been handed a timely injury boost.

As seen in training on Arsenal’s official club website, both Kai Havertz and Riccardo Calafiori were pictured taking part in full first-team training on Friday.

Thus, indicating they are in contention for the trip to Old Trafford.

Havertz had missed Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat to Villarreal after picking up a knock.

While Calafiori was sidelined with an issue sustained during Arsenal’s Asia tour against Newcastle.

Their return means Mikel Arteta could have two key players back just in time for the season opener, with Calafiori offering depth at both centre-back and left-back.

While, Havertz is likely to be deployed in midfield.

However, Leandro Trossard was not spotted in training and remains a doubt for the fixture, having suffered a groin issue in the pre-season North London derby loss to Spurs.

Gabriel Jesus remains Arsenal’s only long-term absentee, with his ACL recovery expected to continue into the autumn months.

Last time both sides met in the Premier League, the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
