Manchester United are on the verge of signing RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, making the likelihood of Rasmus Hojlund staying at Old Trafford less likely.

The Slovenia international is joining to take on the first-choice striker role, replacing Rasmus Hojlund after the Dane has struggled to establish consistency in front of goal at Old Trafford.

Whilst Joshua Zirkzee has also struggled in his debut season for The Red Devils, Ruben Amorim reportedly sees scope for development of the Netherlands international, however the same can’t be said about Hojlund.

Last night it was reported that United are open to the player going out on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season, with AC Milan seemingly jumping on the news.

TuttoMercatoWeb has now reported that the Italian giants are in negotiations with The Red Devils over a move for Hojlund this summer, to bring the striker back to Serie A.

It’s understood that the deal is in line with United’s agreement of a loan offer with an option to buy for £39 million (€45 million) potentially reaching £43.5 million (€50 million) with bonuses.

However, it’s been reported that £4.5 million of this fee will be immediate as a loan fee for the striker to join AC Milan for the season, with the remaining £34.5 million plus bonuses to be paid at the end of the season to retain the Denmark international.

A return to Serie A has been seemingly on the cards for some time now, with a host of Italian sides looking to the striker, including Lazio, Napoli, Juventus, AS Roma and former side, Atalanta.

AC Milan appear to be front-runners for the striker, however, Hojlund’s desire is to remain at Old Trafford to fight for his role in Ruben Amorim’s squad despite Benjamin Sesko being signed.
