RB Leipzig are looking to find a replacement for Benjamin Sesko as the Slovenia international is set to join Manchester United.
The two clubs have now agreed a deal in principle for the 22-year-old striker to join The Red Devils, with his personal terms already agreed.
Sesko is keen to move to Old Trafford, wanting to be a part of Ruben Amorim’s project to rebuild the club and restore them to the top of world football.
However, with Sesko set to leave the Bundesliga side, Leipzig are in need of a replacement.
Now, FootMercato has reported that Leipzig have found their new Sesko in the form of PSV Eindhoven striker Ricardo Pepi.
The 22-year-old has been with Dutch club for two seasons, having joined from FC Augsburg in 2023 for £9.5 million.
Since then, the USA international has made 68 appearances with 26 goals and six assists.
Ricardo Pepi also has Bundesliga experience from his time with FC Augsburg, however made limited league gametime, with only 15 appearances across the two season between 2021 and 2023.
However it’s understood that Pepi’s interest has soared since joining PSV and especially over the last few months, with several clubs from across Europe looking to the striker, leading to Leipzig have some strong opposition.
Currently, their main threat is Fulham who have had a £26 million bid rejected by the Eredivisie side.
As such, Leipzig will need to move quickly to catch up with Fulham’s efforts, having also lost Yussuf Poulsen to Hamburger SV this summer.
Heading into the new season, as things stand, Leipzig will be left with Lois Openda, Andre Silva and Timo Werner able to play in the centre-forward position.
However, the Bundesliga club are obviously unsure of who their new front-man will be as they recently lost to Atalanta 2-1, leaving Sesko out of the squad due to his imminent departure.
