Burnley are preparing for their first campaign back in the Premier League, hoping to survive the drop as last season all three promoted clubs from the Championship were relegated at the end of the season.
Southampton came dead last with only 12 points in one of the worst performances of any Premier League era club, whilst Ipswich ended in 19th with 22 points and Leicester City with 25 points.
Now Burnley are hoping to see this as a one-off year where the promoted sides fall back down, rebooting their Premier League stay.
The Turf Moor side have bounced between the Premier League and the Championship regularly over the last 20 years, seeing the club hold a spot in the top flight for six seasons between 2016/17 and 2021/22.
Now, Burnley are recruiting to their ranks in a bid to have a successful campaign.
Taking to their official website, Burnley have officially unveiled their new signing in the form of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
The club announced: “Burnley Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of experienced goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka.”
The statement continued: “Dúbravka, 36, has put pen to paper on a one-year contract at Turf Moor, and will don the Clarets’ number 1 jersey.
“The Slovakian stopper, who has made over 50 appearances for his country, joins from Newcastle United – for whom he featured 179 times since 2018 – for an undisclosed fee.”
Now, speaking for the first time as a Burnley player, Dubravka commented: “I’m delighted to be here.”
He continued: “It’s a really exciting time to be joining this Club, ahead of our return to the Premier League.
“I’ve only heard really positive things about the club, the culture and the environment we work in, so I’m excited about getting going with the season kicking off next weekend.
“Burnley had a fantastic campaign last season, built on a superb defensive record, and I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad of players.
“I’m really looking forward to playing for the club in front of our passionate fans.”
Martin Dubravka had a brief stint on loan with Manchester United as a back-up keeper for the first half of the 2022/23 season, however he only made two appearances for the Red Devils, both of which came in the EFL Cup, firstly beating Aston Villa 4-2 and then, Burnley 2-0.
