David de Gea is widely regarded as a true Manchester United stalwart.
A loyal stalwart who stood between the posts for over a decade and earned legend status among the Old Trafford faithful.
His departure in 2023 marked the end of an era, with De Gea having won multiple individual accolades, including four Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year awards.
United moved swiftly to replace him with Andre Onana.
A goalkeeper more aligned with the modern game, especially in terms of distribution and playing out from the back.
But Onana’s struggles since his arrival has led many fans to reminisce over De Gea’s consistency and iconic performances in red.
Now, De Gea has commented ahead of his return to Old Trafford this weekend – simply posting “United Road. See you Saturday 🧤” on X.
The 34-year-old is set to feature for Fiorentina in Saturday’s pre-season friendly at the Theatre of Dreams.
United’s final warm-up fixture before the new Premier League campaign kicks off.
It will be De Gea’s first appearance back at the stadium since his emotional exit nearly two years ago.
After a year away from football, he signed for Fiorentina last August and impressed in his debut season, keeping 11 clean sheets in 42 games.
United supporters have the chance to honour a former hero and witness the club’s final preparations before the new season begins.
De Gea was in fact, rumoured to be signing for United second time round.
However that saga was quickly put to bed in April.
The Spaniard was also once set to move to Real Madrid once upon a time, only for the move to collapse late on.
A failed move which de Gea recently opened up about.
United Road.
See you Saturday 🧤 https://t.co/wbLCMxdERF
