It’s been a mixed summer window for Manchester United so far, with a handful of positive additions, but major struggles when it comes to outgoings.
Despite Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo being welcomed to bolster the attack, the Red Devils have found it difficult to offload players and create financial room for further signings.
The only notable senior departures have been Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen, both of whom had already been expected to leave last season.
Some progress was made recently with Marcus Rashford joining Barcelona on loan, but that deal won’t significantly help United’s finances this summer.
Now, as the transfer window deadline continues to edge closer, Alejandro Garnacho’s name has become increasingly prominent – and Chelsea remain at the centre of it.
According to Fabrizio Romano on DAZN, the London club have spoken directly with Garnacho’s representatives, with the deal now reaching advanced stages.
“Chelsea spoke to the representatives of Alejandro Garnacho, Garnacho is waiting for Chelsea,” Romano revealed.
While there’s been no official bid yet, Chelsea have communicated that they will return later in the window.
“Chelsea told Garnacho they might come later in the window,” he added.
It must be noted that the Blues are also working on a deal to sign RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.
Thus, explaining why talks for Garnacho haven’t progressed as quickly.
Romano also made clear that, in his view, this is not just speculative interest.
“In my personal view, this is more than a possibility.
“At the moment, it’s advanced on the player’s side,” he said.
“My personal feeling is there’s a very good chance of this deal happening later in the window.”
With United needing major outgoings to reshape the squad, Garnacho’s departure will certainly help Amorim in implementing a stronger culture at Old Trafford.
“I think Garnacho to Chelsea has very good chances to happen” – @FabrizioRomano 👀
