Manchester United’s summer window may be defined as much by unexpected windfalls as new signings — and one of the club’s most controversial former players is once again at the centre of it all.

While Ruben Amorim continues shaping his squad at Carrington ahead of the new Premier League season, the club’s financial department is watching events in Saudi Arabia with interest.

Former United forward Mason Greenwood is once again on the radar of the Saudi Pro League.

The push, this time, is coming from none other than Cristiano Ronaldo himself.

United sold Greenwood to Marseille in 2024 for a fee of up to £26.6 million, but smartly included a 40–50% sell-on clause — meaning any future transfer could bring a sizeable windfall to Old Trafford.

Now, the Saudi transfer machine is moving again — and United could benefit from the fallout.

According to Marca, Al Nassr are now targeting Mason Greenwood as their next major reinforcement, with Ronaldo personally endorsing the move.

Greenwood, 23, is coming off a sensational season at Marseille, scoring 21 goals and registering six assists in Ligue 1, helping fire the club to a second-place finish behind PSG.

His performances have attracted serious attention, not only from the Middle East but also from Inter Milan.

Greenwood previously rejected a Saudi offer in 2023 after a loan spell at Getafe reignited his European ambitions.

However, with Champions League football secured and his stock higher than ever, this summer may offer him a more lucrative and career-defining choice.

Al Nassr’s rivals are also spending heavily — Al Hilal, Al Ahli, and Al Ittihad are all strengthening — and Ronaldo is determined to keep his club competitive.

Ultimately, Greenwood will decide whether to remain in Europe or take on a new challenge in Saudi Arabia, this time with Ronaldo’s direct backing.

If he does make the move, Manchester United stand to gain a massive financial boost, without needing to negotiate a single term.
