Manchester United’s men’s team has been working tirelessly behind the scenes this summer.
Manager Ruben Amorim continues to shape his squad, with several young talents impressing in training and veterans being assessed for their long-term futures at the club.
The Red Devils are also monitoring multiple transfer targets, with incomings and outgoings expected before the window slams shut.
Meanwhile, attention at Carrington isn’t solely on the men, as the women’s team has just made a major addition of their own.
Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing, via the clubs website, of Sweden international Julia Zigiotti Olme on a two-year deal, with an option to extend for a further year.
Julia Zigiotti Olme arrives from Bayern Munich, where she enjoyed a trophy-laden season, lifting both the Frauen-Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.
Fans may recall her starring role in the Bayern side that defeated United in the final of the inaugural World Sevens tournament in May – a result that left a lasting impression.
On the international scene, she recently represented Sweden at the European Championship, helping them reach the quarter-finals.
They were narrowly eliminated by England in a tense penalty shootout, during which Olme confidently converted her spot-kick against England’s Hannah Hampton.
Speaking on her arrival, Olme said: “I am so happy to be here and so happy to get started and to join this family.
“I have been watching Manchester United in the last couple of years and, having seen what they have been doing, I am very impressed.
“They are a team that fits me and my style, meeting the players has been great.
“They were like a family and it was a fantastic way to start.”
Manchester United’s director of women’s football, Matt Johnson, added: “Julia is one of Europe’s best defensive midfielders who brings a winning mentality and experience of competing in the top competitions.
“On the pitch, she has an insatiable work-rate, ability to win possession back for her team and creative passing range.
“This is a player the fans will enjoy watching this season.”
Ella Toone, Grace Clinton, and club captain Maya Le Tissier won the 2025 Women’s Euros and the trio will definitely help Olme settle into life in Manchester.
Olme’s arrival highlights the club’s commitment to both men’s and women’s football, as United aim to build winning teams across the board.
