Manchester United’s recruitment drive this summer has seen them move swiftly to bolster their attack with the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

While those signings have lifted spirits, there’s a growing belief internally that the club still need to bring in a more polished, natural centre-forward to lead the line for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Benjamin Sesko has emerged as the top striker target, with United in contact with RB Leipzi.

A swap deal with Rasmus Hojlund going the other way has been mentioned.

However, there’s no guarantee that deal will go through, especially with strong competition from Newcastle United.

The situation is further complicated by the club’s need to be financially cautious after missing out on European football, with player sales yet to accelerate.

Now, as per The Sun’s report, Manchester United are also targeting VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade as an alternative option.

The towering 6ft 6in German forward, who recently finished as the top scorer at the European Under-21 Championship with six goals, is reportedly being tracked by United.

Woltemade, 23, is valued at around £40 million and would likely be a Plan B if United are unable to land Sesko.

He enjoyed an impressive season with Stuttgart, netting 17 goals in 33 games, and has also made two senior appearances for Germany.

His versatility – able to play behind the striker or out wide – along with his dribbling, vision, and aerial dominance, are qualities that have all caught the eye of scouts within United.

The Red Devils aren’t alone in their admiration either, with Bayern Munich and Newcastle United also eyeing a potential move for the Werder Bremen academy graduate.

It remains fascinating to see the type of striker United end up signing.

Hojlund, the younger and more inexperienced type, has struggled to improve in United’s environment.

Eyebrows would be raised if the club end up going for another unpolished striker – with sections of the fanbase leaning towards the Premier League proven and experienced Ollie Watkins.

Although it appears the hierarchy have chosen to prioritise Sesko over Watkins.
