Manchester United’s summer overhaul continues to gather pace as they close in on key attacking targets under Ruben Amorim’s guidance.

The Red Devils have already completed deals for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and Matheus Cunha from Wolves, reinforcing their forward line ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Despite those additions, Amorim is reportedly pushing for one more elite striker to round off his attacking trio, indicating that United are far from done in this transfer window.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins was explored, but Villa’s firm stance on keeping their star forward has made the transfer difficult.

Newcastle United’s uncertain future with Alexander Isak, who wants to leave St James’ Park, has also added urgency to United’s efforts — with the Tyneside club now reportedly chasing the same top target.

That target is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who has now become Manchester United’s top priority if they sign another striker this summer, as per The Athletic.

Informal talks have already taken place between United and Leipzig after Benjamin Sesko emerged as the club’s preferred option over other candidates.

The 22-year-old striker is understood to have chosen Manchester United

The 22-year-old Slovenia international has a contract running until 2029, but it includes an understanding that an offer between €80m and €90m would be enough to release him from his Bundesliga side.

Sesko, who scored 39 goals and provided 8 assists in 87 games for Leipzig, also impressed at Euro 2024 with his national side and is seen by many at Old Trafford as a long-term solution to United’s striking needs.

He has been on the club’s radar since 2019, when they felt the €3million Salzburg paid for him was too steep at the time.

United have since made multiple approaches — including last summer before they eventually signed Joshua Zirkzee — but believe the timing is now right to finally land their man.

Christopher Vivell, United’s director of recruitment, is understood to be pushing for the move, having previously worked with Sesko during his time at both Salzburg and Leipzig.

While Sesko would be more expensive than Watkins, his age and potential make him a valuable long-term investment for the Red Devils.

United’s ambition is clear: sign a forward who can lead the line for years to come — and Sesko fits the bill perfectly.
