Manchester United are still looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, with PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma coming up on a regular basis over recent weeks.
The Red Devils’ pursuit of Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa appears to be over, with the other routine name being Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.
It’s understood that a pursuit of Lammens would be as a second-keeper, needing first to offload Altay Bayindir.
Whilst Lammens is extremely keen to move to Old Trafford, no suitors have made themselves known as of yet for Bayindir, leaving this deal to stall.
However, as a placement for problematic Andre Onana, Gianluigi Donnarumma has emerged with a host of Premier League clubs looking to the talent-shotstopper.
Initially it looked like a two horse race, with a transfer version of the Manchester Derby playing out as United and City pursued the goalkeeper.
However Chelsea have now joined the race too, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that United are now the front-runners for his signature.
This is reportedly due to a few factors, firstly and most importantly being that they are the most desperate for a new keeper this summer.
However another major factor is City’s recent signing of James Trafford, meaning they’re less likely to now move for another top rated keeper in the same window.
With Chelsea entering the race late, this leaves United at the front of the pack, however with the club’s financial struggles, more sales will be required before being able to make any new signings.
Currently United are working on moves to see Antony move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr, and Jason Sancho joining Juventus.
However, with deals yet to materialise for the pair, United will have to wait for at least one of these moves to finalise before being able to officially step in with a bid for Gianluigi Donnarumma.
