Manchester United are still looking to solve their attacking issues by recruiting a new striker this summer, with Ollie Watkins at the top of their list.

United have been without a prolific striker for the last two years, as Rasmus Hojlund has failed to provide consistency in front of goal.

In his two seasons at Old Trafford, Hojlund has registered 26 goals and six assists in 95 games.

As such, United are looking to use this summer to find a replacement for the Denmark international to lead Ruben Amorim’s front line next season.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins came into the frame as United have been looking to focus on proven Premier League talents to avoid the risk of players underperforming or not adjusting to English football.

That’s where Watkins comes in, having scored 87 goals and grabbed 42 assists in 223 games across five seasons at Villa Park.

Comparing this with Hojlund, United’s current first-choice striker is registering a goal contribution every three games, whereas Watkins is contributing every other game.

As such, Watkins would be an upgrade on Hojlund, with Ben Jacobs now reporting that United have received a boost in his pursuit.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Inside Devils on YouTube, Jacobs reported that Watkins would be keen for a move.

This desire from Watkins could well push Villa’s hand, with sources close to the club suggesting that if Watkins pushed for a move, a deal of £50 million would stand a chance of being accepted.
