Manchester United have been under the ownership of the Glazer family since 2005, when they acquired a controlling stake in the club.

The takeover was highly controversial, as it was financed through debt, a burden that has remained ever since.

Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, the club has struggled to stay at the top of the footballing world.

In February 2024, INEOS acquired a 25% stake in the club, gaining full control of United’s football operations.

While they are yet to deliver success on the pitch, there is growing optimism that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team will run the football side of the club with far greater efficiency.

INEOS have adopted a new approach to recruitment, targeting younger players and focusing on Premier League-proven talent.

This strategy has already seen the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, signings designed to make an immediate impact under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Mail Sport has reported that the Glazer family are looking to invest in a team in a new rugby franchise league called R360.

The competition is scheduled to launch in September 2026 and will be free-to-air on television, with promises of bringing “generational change” to the sport by injecting significant new revenue into rugby.

The league is being driven by World Cup winner Mike Tindall and has reportedly secured backing for eight men’s teams, each costing around £15 million to establish.

The Glazers will hope this venture proves to be a lucrative business opportunity.

Meanwhile, Manchester United fans will be hoping that any profits from the rugby project can eventually be reinvested into the football club, not just to deliver financial returns, but to help bring success back to the pitch.
