In their bid to prepare for their first ever Championship campaign, Wrexham are once more raiding the transfer market for talented free agents, now turning to Christian Eriksen.

This tactic is one that Wrexham have used for the last two seasons, supporting them with their back-to-back-to-back promotions from the National League to the Championship, gaining automatic promotion through League Two and League One.

Now, facing their hardest test to date, The Dragons have already recruited Danny Ward from Leicester City, with the former Liverpool goalkeeper returning to his academy side.

Alongside him, Liberato Cacace has been bought from Serie A side Empoli, whilst Josh Windass and Ryan Hardie bring a combined 250 Championship appearances from Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic, and Plymouth Argyle respectively.

Now though, Wrexham could be on the brink of bringing in their biggest profile player to date, with recently released Christian Eriksen on their shortlist.

Links to Eriksen have been surfacing for a while now since it was clear the Premier League veteran wouldn’t be staying on at Old Trafford.

The Daily Mail has now reported that Wrexham have approached Eriksen, with the Denmark international impressed by their proposal.

However, the 33-year-old isn’t keen to step away from top-flight football just yet, despite his contract expiring with Manchester United.

Eriksen’s representative Martin Schoots commented: “Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people like [CEO] Michael Williamson there.”

He continued: “But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe. There are some contacts going on but it has to suit both sides.”

The centre-midfielder has reportedly also been contacted by clubs in Saudi Arabia, the USA, Turkey and Brzil, however he’s keen to remain in the top European leagues.
