Ipswich Town are preparing for a season in the Championship once again as the club were relegated from the Premier League last season.
While manager Kieran McKenna is still in charge of the side, he’s unfortunately lost one of his key men in Liam Delap, who joined Chelsea when the transfer window opened to remain in the Premier League.
The Tractor Boys have also let go of Axel Tuanzebe, Cameron Burgess and Marcus Harness, whose contracts came to an end.
However, Azor Matusiwa has been brought in from Stade Rennais, with David Button also joining from Reading, as McKenna looks to bounce back next season and qualify once more for the Premier League.
Now though, Ipswich have managed to bring in a former Manchester United talent on a free transfer, with the 40-year-old not keen on hanging up his boots just yet.
Taking to their official site, Ipswich Town have now announced the signing of Ashley Young.
In a statement announcing Young’s signing, the Championship side commented: “Ipswich Town is delighted to announce the signing of Ashley Young. Ashley joins on a one-year deal having spent the vast majority of his career in the Premier League with the likes of Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Everton.”
Speaking about having Young in his ranks, manager Kieran McKenna commented: “Ashley has had a fantastic career and his achievements speak for themselves.”
He continued: “He has maintained an extremely high level of professionalism and competitiveness through his career and he is still playing at a very good level.
“We feel his leadership and experience will be valuable to the group this season and he is very hungry to contribute on and off the pitch.
“It’s a very strong signing for the group and the club.”
