Manchester United’s youth exodus continues to gather pace as the club reshapes its developmental structure under manager Ruben Amorim.

Several academy talents have already left on loan this summer in pursuit of regular minutes at senior level, with Joe Hugill joining Barnet, Sonny Aljofree heading to Notts County, and Habeeb Ogunneye linking up with Newport County.

Others, like Enzo Kana-Biyik and Dan Gore, have been sent abroad or retained in the English Football League to sharpen their progress through consistent first-team exposure.

It’s all part of Amorim’s plan to streamline the pathway to the senior side, giving the club’s most promising prospects real-world experience across a variety of competitive levels.

Now, another promising talent is heading out after a frustrating delay caused by a blow to United’s No.1.

Elyh Harrison is set to join Shrewsbury Town on loan for the 2025/26 season, giving the 19-year-old goalkeeper his first taste of professional football in the English Football League, as per Alex Crook via X.

The move was agreed some time ago, but a recent injury to Andre Onana meant the club held off finalising the deal to ensure sufficient cover during pre-season.

Harrison, who joined United from Stevenage in 2022, signed his first professional deal in March last year and spent the first half of the previous campaign on loan at non-league Chester FC, where he impressed before being recalled to serve as academy cover.

Despite not yet making a competitive appearance for United, Elyh Harrison has regularly trained with the first team and was included in the matchday squad for six Premier League fixtures and two Europa League ties.

His exclusion from the squad for the recent friendly against Leeds, where Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, and Dermot Mee were all selected instead, signalled his imminent departure.

With Onana’s condition improving and Shrewsbury keen to finalise their squad early, Harrison’s switch is finally going through.

He becomes the sixth United youngster to head out on loan this window, with more expected to follow as Harry Amass and Jack Moorhouse also await temporary moves.
