Following this, in August of last year, he joined Serie A side Fiorentina where he has made 42 appearances and where he was able to achieve a sixth place finish in Italy’s top tier last season.

During the 2024-25 season, he was able to keep eleven clean sheets whilst making 98 saves.

This, alongside his experience with United and other clubs, attracted the interest of other clubs around Europe.

One of these clubs has been AS Monaco who added the Spanish goal stopper to a shortlist of potential targets this summer.

However, now, in an interview with Cronache di spogliatoio, the 34-year-old confirmed that he had had offers, and that deciding to stay at Fiorentina was a big decision.

The goalkeeper also expressed his thanks to the Italian club for ‘making an effort to keep me’.

But, he also acknowledged that ‘this is probably one of my last contracts, given my age.’

Commenting on his life in Italy, he stated ‘I’m happy here; I’ve been telling my family for a long time…I want to stay at Fiorentina. I love the club, the people, the fans… it’s like a big family, and the training center is fantastic.”

Through this interview, we can see that David de Gea is liking life at Fiorentina but he does recognise that his career is coming to an end shortly.

We can also see that the life he has in Italy alongside Fiorentina’s own efforts have meant that the Spanish man stayed at the Serie A club.
