Manchester United have been heavily linked to signing a new goalkeeper this summer, especially over the last few weeks.
With Andre Onana’s problematic performances over the last two years, the potential of replacing him was being considered by the United recruitment team, heading into the summer transfer window.
Since then, a series of potential candidates have been linked with an Old Trafford move, such as Parma’s Zion Suzuki, AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, Porto’s Diogo Costa, Burnley’s James Trafford, Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and Botafogo’s John Victor to name but a few.

Over recent weeks, the thought of signing a new keeper has only heightened thanks to Onana’s recent hamstring injury, ruling him out of their first pre-season friendly against Leeds United later today.
Thankfully however, the injury isn’t as severe as first thought, being a sprain rather than a tear, meaning he’ll be back on the pitch sooner than expected.
As such, United aren’t having to review their previous shortlist of keepers, with Victor and Martinez heading the list if needed.

Whilst this is a positive for Onana, it could be a real loss to United, who are now set to miss out on one of their shortlisted stars, James Trafford.
According to Fabrizio Romano via X, contacts between Man City and Burnley have already started for the young keeper.
Pep Guardiola’s side wants to negotiate a fee lower than the buyback clause worth £40 million.
Trafford was a huge part of Burnley’s successful Championship campaign last season, helping the Turf Moor side achieve promotion with 29 clean sheets in 45 games, only conceding 16 goals all season.
It’s understood that City are looking to Trafford with the potential exit of Stefan Ortega and Ederson.
