Manchester United are preparing for a decisive few weeks in the transfer window as Ruben Amorim pushes for key changes in his squad ahead of pre-season fixtures.

The club have already seen movement in the goalkeeper department, with several potential deals stalling due to financial constraints and squad priorities.

With Andre Onana suffering an injury during pre-season training and Altay Bayindir’s future still uncertain, it’s been widely expected that a new keeper would arrive to provide competition.

It is expected that each new signing must raise the overall quality of the team, and now it appears United may have found the perfect opportunity to do just that—without blowing the budget.

Despite the speculation surrounding Aston Villa’s reluctance to sell, a fresh report from Argentine outlet Clarin claims Emiliano Martinez is now on the verge of joining Manchester United.

According to the publication, a previously unknown €25 million (£21 million) release clause in the goalkeeper’s contract is the key that has unlocked negotiations.

The report adds that Emiliano Martinez has “everything ready” to make the move to Old Trafford, describing it as a “qualitative leap” in his career due to the stature of United as one of the world’s most historic clubs.

Although the clause supposedly allows Martinez to leave for €25 million, Manchester United are reportedly prepared to pay more than that figure to avoid paying the full amount in one instalment, which is the usual requirement of such clauses.

Martinez has reportedly also rejected some major contracts from the Saudi Pro League which would have seen him earn £26 million per year.

Sources say Amorim has already given the green light for the transfer, which would see Martinez arrive as a direct upgrade or serious challenger to Onana—especially after a season of mixed performances by the Cameroonian.

While the deal hasn’t been officially confirmed, the Argentine outlet insists it is nearing completion, and that the existence of the release clause explains months of confusing speculation about his future.

If true, United may be about to complete one of the smartest moves of the summer.
