It has been no secret that Ruben Amorim has been searching for players to improve his attacking line-up this summer.
Manchester United scored 44 Premier League goals last season, a record low for the Red Devils, therefore it is no surprise that a new number nine is Amorim’s top priority this summer.
The initial striker interest this summer was towards Ipswich’s Liam Delap, however the English forward opted against signing for Manchester United and joined Premier League rivals, Chelsea.
United then turned their attentions towards Amorim’s former marksman, Viktor Gyokeres, who finished runner-up to Kylian Mbappe in last season’s European golden boot.
Amorim reportedly contacted Gyokeres and spoke to him about his desires for the Swedish striker to join him at Old Trafford.
Similar to Delap, Viktor Gyokeres decided against joining the Reds and his former boss as United’s lack of European football next season turned the Swede’s attentions towards Arsenal.
After two failed attempts, United looked towards French forward, Hugo Ekitike, who is expected to become one of Europe’s elite strikers in the coming years.

The Frenchman joined Frankfurt last summer from European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, for around £14 million, a steal based on the price tag the German club are now demanding.
In the past week it has seemed United’s interest dwindled slightly as their Premier League rivals looked set to land the signature of the French forward.
Both Newcastle and Liverpool have been going head to head in a bid to sign Ekitike this week with both clubs reportedly having official bids rejected.
Newcastle were the first to bid as they put forward a club-record £70 million to sign the attacker, which was subsequently rejected.
Despite Newcastle’s attempts, it seems Ekitike’s heart is set on Anfield.
According to Fabrice Hawkins, Hugo Ekitike has reached an agreement with Liverpool which would see him lead the line at Anfield for six years.
Talks are still progressing between the two clubs as Liverpool submitted a formal bid which was rejected, it is understood that Frankfurt want over £80 million for the Frenchman.
It has also been revealed that in the past 24 hours, Hugo Ekitike turned down Manchester United as the Red Devils looked to swoop in on their rivals transfer business.
With it looking likely that the French forward will sign for United’s rivals, Liverpool, Ruben Amorim will now need to turn his attentions towards a different man to lead the line at Old Trafford, if United are to improve on last season’s 15th place finish.
