French side RC Strasbourg are looking to improve on their 7th-place finish in Ligue 1 last season, having gone to the market and drafted reinforcements.

Already, the Ligue 1 side have recruited Andrew Omobamidele from Nottingham Forest, Valentin Barco from Brighton, Soumaila Coulibaly from Borussia Dortmund, Samuel Amo-Ameyaw from Southampton and Pape Demba Diop from Zulte Waregem.

However, Liam Rosenior’s most recent signing comes in the form of former Manchester United academy star Maxi Oyedele.

The Poland international left Old Trafford last summer, having come through the United academy with loan spells at Forest Green and Altrincham.

Unfortunately though, Oyedele didn’t fit into United’s long-term plans, seeing The Red Devils agree to his departure, including a hefty sell-on clause and a buy-back clause in case they wish to benefit from his further development.

Now, Strasbourg have taken to their official site to announce the signing of Maxi Oyedele from Legia Warsaw after a year with the Polish side.

The Ligue 1 side’s announcement read: “The Polish international midfielder has signed a contract with Racing until 2030.”

It continues: “Born in England and a product of Manchester United, Maximillian Oyedele won the FA Youth Cup in 2022. After several loan spells across the Channel, the defensive midfielder signed with Legia Warsaw, with whom he reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Conference League last season.

“His performances earned him a call-up to the national team at just 19 years old, for which he has won two caps. He has signed with Racing for the next five seasons.”

However, United are set to benefit from the move, with their 40% sell-on clause negotiated in his move to Legia Warsaw.

With Strasbourg buying the 20-year-old for £5.2 million, United are set to receive a payment of around £2 million for the switch.
