Hugo Ekitike is one of the most sought-after strikers this summer as the Eintracht Frankfurt star is being pursued by Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United in the Premier League alone.
Over recent weeks Liverpool have seemingly been front-runners for the French striker, looking to the 23-year-old as an upgrade to Darwin Nunez, however over recent days that’s changed.
Now, Newcastle have emerged in the driving seat as they look to swoop in and steal Ekitike.

Super-agent Ali Barat has been in Newcastle over recent days, trying to sort out the move, with terms still needed to be agreed between Newcastle and both Ekitike and Frankfurt.
It’s understood that Newcastle have fielded a £70 million bid for the young striker, with Sky Sports has now revealed has been rejected by the Bundesliga side.
Frankfurt have been clear that they want £85 million for the striker as they hope to retain him for another season.

With Newcastle’s bid already in line to break their club record signing, it’s unknown at this stage if the Magpies will be willing to increase their offer, however the high asking price is certainly out of reach for Manchester United.
The Red Devils are still negotiating with Brentford over signing Bryan Mbeumo, with their valuations reportedly still a few million apart at around the £65 million mark.
As such, with the valuation of Hugo Ekitike set at £20 million higher than the current ball park figure for Mbeumo, it’s unlikely the Red Devils will continue in the race for the young talent.
Unfortunately if Ekitike does move to St James Park, it would mark another major signing missed by United due to the limited funds at the club and the lack of European football on offer.
