Manchester United have always been focused on maintaining and improving player fitness and performance, especially now under the guidance of head coach Ruben Amorim.

The club’s approach to sports science and technology has been evolving rapidly in recent years, aiming to keep players in peak condition throughout the demanding football calendar.

With increasing competition in the Premier League, investing in cutting-edge performance tracking technology is crucial.

Clubs are relying more than ever on data-driven insights to tailor training loads, prevent injuries, and optimise player development.

Manchester United have now taken a significant step in that direction by renewing their long-term partnership with STATSports, the leading GPS performance tracker supplier, as the club announced on their official website.

This renewal strengthens the club’s commitment to using the best hardware available to monitor player performance both on and off the pitch.

The deal ensures that Manchester United will continue to benefit from STATSports’ Apex 2.0 GPS trackers, the only devices to have earned FIFA’s highest performance certification.

These trackers provide highly accurate data, helping coaches and performance staff understand every aspect of a player’s physical output.

Additionally, the new agreement includes the installation of fixed infrastructure and Local Positioning Systems (LPS) at the club’s training ground, Carrington, as well as at Old Trafford.

This enhancement means the club can now monitor players’ movements and exertion with unparalleled precision across all training and matchday environments.

Ed Leng, Manchester United’s head of physical performance, emphasised the importance of this technology, saying, “At Manchester United, we’re always looking to push the boundaries of player performance.

“Wearable trackers are a vital part of that process, and we’re grateful for STATSports’ continued support and partnership.”

He added, “Their Apex 2.0 trackers will enable us to unlock deeper insights across all men’s and women’s players in every training environment, from Academy to first team.

“By expanding our fixed infrastructure at Carrington, Old Trafford and Leigh, we’ll enhance real-time tracking capabilities helping us to better prepare, develop and protect our players.”

Sean O’Connor, co-founder of STATSports, praised the club’s ambition and outlook: “Manchester United are a benchmark for ambition and excellence.

“This supplier partnership renewal is a testament to their belief in the value of high-performance and our role in delivering it.”

He also noted the benefits of the technology: “Apex 2.0 trackers enable United’s staff to obtain up-to-date accurate information in respect of player availability, individual development and team performance.

“With the addition of fixed infrastructure across both training and matchday environments, we’re helping embed a world-class performance culture across every touchpoint.”

Last month, United also announced the extension of their strategic partnership with Apollo Tyres Ltd for an additional three years.

This renewed partnership with STATSports positions Manchester United at the forefront of sports performance innovation, helping them optimise player fitness and gain a competitive edge.
