Manchester United’s attempt to sign Valencia’s Javi Guerra as part of their summer rebuild is unfortunately not quite as hopeful as first reported earlier today.

Reports emerged that The Red Devils were on the verge of signing the talented 22-year-old, as a host of top European clubs have looked to the midfielder.

United are reportedly joined by AC Milan, Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid in targeting Guerra who’s had a modest asking price put on his services by Valencia.

It’s understood that Valencia initially wanted £26 million (€30 million) for their star man, however, would be happy to look at offers of around £21.5 million (€25 million).

However, Nathan Salt of The Daily Mail has now weighed into the situation, claiming that the move to Old Trafford isn’t close at all.

Salt explains that the Spanish side are looking to retain their midfielder, who’s contract expires in 2027, by offering him a new contract this week.

The Daily Mail reporter also credited Hector Gomez who previously reported that Guerra is keen to understand what the new contract offer looks like before considering a move away from his hometown club.

As such, this indicates a real preference from Javi Guerra to remain with Valencia, having come through the club’s academy over recent years.

However, that doesn’t mean a deal for United is entirely off the table, with The Red Devils firmly in the race should he reject Valencia’s new contract offer.
