Manchester United are reportedly on the brink of signing Valencia star Javi Guerra to reinforce their midfield.

This summer has seen The Red Devils lose Christian Eriksen at the end of his contract, and whilst the Denmark international had very much become a back-up option, he was still used nonetheless.

Admittedly, as Eriksen wasn’t a routine starter, his departure won’t be a huge blow for the club, still having Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro to fill the centre of the pitch, as well as rising youngster Toby Collyer.

However, veteran midfielder Casemiro is now struggling to keep up with the younger, more intense players the Premier League has to offer, needing a third midfielder alongside Mainoo and Ugarte with experience at the top level.

Now The Red Devils are reportedly entering the race for Javi Guerra, with a move apparently imminent.

It’s understood that United are up against AC Milan, Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid for the 22-year-old, with a potential deal being very affordable for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Daniele Longo has reported that Valencia are valuing Guerra at £26 million (€30 million), however, a deal could reportedly be done for around £21.5 million (€25 million).

With United’s current financial struggles, keeping costs down for new signings is an absolute must, making a £25 million move for Guerra a potential bargain given his age.

Previously United have paid massive sums like the £73 million spent on Rasmus Hojlund to nd up not preforming to the level needed.

In comparison a move like this for Guerra comes with much lower risk.

However, clubs are renowned for adding on a “United Tax” when Manchester United come calling, so it will be interesting to see if his transfer fee remains low over the coming days.
