Ollie Watkins has been a standout performer for Aston Villa in recent years, hitting at least 15 Premier League goals in each of the last three seasons.

He managed 16 goals and 8 assists in the 2024/25 campaign alone, showing his consistency at the top level.

With several elite clubs in need of a proven, reliable striker, capable of delivering 15+ goals a season, interest in Watkins is growing.

Aston Villa are reportedly open to a sale and have set an initial asking price of £60 million.

While that figure may appear steep, it could become more negotiable as talks progress.

Especially given Aston Villa’s financial troubles after missing out on the Champions League.

Therefore, many clubs would consider it a bargain for an England international in his prime.

But with Watkins’ future up in the air and clubs circling, where will he be playing his football for the 2025/26 season?

Manchester United

With Viktor Gyokeres reportedly favouring a move to Arsenal over Old Trafford, Manchester United have begun exploring alternative options.

One of those is Ollie Watkins.

Watkins would be a natural fit for this United side.

His ability to run the channels, stretch defences, and offer an outlet in transition is exactly what Ruben Amorim needs.

None of United’s current No.9 options consistently threaten the space in behind or provide a reliable out ball.

Beyond his movement, Watkins also excels at holding the ball up.

His strength in duels and ability to occupy centre-backs could allow United to play more directly and move higher up the pitch.

Most importantly, he guarantees goals.

With at least 15 league goals in each of the last three seasons, he offers the proven Premier League pedigree United badly need.

Following the recent signing of Matheus Cunha, United are clearly focused on adding more firepower.

Manchester United had been interested in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez – a move that would help Villa’s PSR situation.

United could now turn their attention to Watkins instead, with relations between the two clubs being strong, potentially easing negotiations.

Watkins would be an excellent addition, but at £60 million and approaching 30, United are unlikely to pay the full asking price.

If Villa are willing to negotiate, Watkins could emerge as a serious target for United this summer.

Arsenal

Just like in the race for Viktor Gyokeres, Manchester United find themselves battling Arsenal for Ollie Watkins.

The Gunners are in the market for a new No.9 to compete with Kai Havertz and provide the cutting edge needed to push for major honours.

Watkins, with his Premier League track record and well-rounded skillset, fits the profile of what Mikel Arteta is looking for.

Arsenal had a £40 million bid for Watkins turned down in January but have since re-entered the race.

However, their focus currently lies on other striker targets, and Watkins is considered more of a fallback option should those deals fall through.

That hesitation could give Manchester United a clear advantage in the pursuit of the Aston Villa striker.

Remain at Aston Villa

While interest from both Manchester United and Arsenal is growing, Aston Villa may be reluctant to sell Ollie Watkins, especially to a direct Premier League rival.

Even if they were open to a deal, persuading Villa to drop their £60 million asking price will be a challenge.

Watkins has three years remaining on his contract, giving Villa a strong bargaining position and little pressure to sell.

Complicating matters further is the departure of Marcus Rashford, who spent last season on loan at Villa playing as a central striker.

With his return to Manchester United, Villa are now short on natural No.9 options.

This makes Watkins even more valuable to Unai Emery’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

Unless a significant offer comes in, keeping Watkins at Villa Park looks a likely outcome this summer.
