Robbie Savage, once a promising youth product at Old Trafford before launching a solid Premier League career, is the newest addition to that list after securing a headline role in League Two.

While Robbie Savage never made a senior appearance for United, he still holds a place in the hearts of many United faithful who followed his journey.

Forest Green Rovers have now officially confirmed the appointment of Savage as their new first-team manager, via the clubs official website.

The Gloucestershire-based side announced on Tuesday, 1 July, that the former Wales international has started work immediately and led his first training session at the Candriam Training Centre in the afternoon.

Savage’s appointment follows an impressive spell in charge of Macclesfield FC, where he guided the club to promotion to the National League North at the first time of asking.

Under his leadership, Macclesfield amassed 109 points and scored 109 goals in the Northern Premier League.

Speaking after his unveiling, Savage said: “I feel I have an opportunity to develop a squad to create an attacking brand of football – an aggressive form of football to try and get Forest Green back into the EFL.

“I want a fast, exciting style but the most important thing is to win games.”

Forest Green added in their statement: “We’re pleased to welcome Robbie to the Club.”

During his playing career, Savage made 346 Premier League appearances for Leicester City, Birmingham City, and Derby County, while also earning 39 caps for Wales.

His move into the Forest Green hot seat marks another chapter in the ever-evolving journey of Manchester United alumni influencing the game from the touchline.
